There are some many online poker sites out there, how do you know which one is best for you?
Personally I think it depends upon what sort of poker player you are and what games you play. If you only really play cash games then I would suggest that you look for a poker site that offer rakeback deals. Rake back allows you to receive a percentage of your rake back from each raked hand that you play at a cash table. If you play cash games and don't receive rakeback then you are losing out on a large percentage of your money.
If you don't play ring games but focus your attention on multi-table tournaments then you may well choose an entirely different online poker room. When playing poker tournaments your focus has to be on the return on your investment. You may not get paid every time but when you do cash you want to make it worth your while. The biggest poker sites tend to offer the biggest guarantees. These poker rooms have large guaranteed tournaments and lots of satellite tournaments to major land based events.
If you are a beginner at poker then maybe you don't really want to put your own money at risk, but at the same time you want to learn how to play poker. You can use the freeplay tables, but these don't really teach you much as no-one folds anything! However, there is a poker site that offers a poker school which teaches you how to play and to develop your skills. You even get a free poker bankroll at the NoiQ Poker School.
5 Tips for Cash Games
1.) Start in a ring game with at least 50 times the bb. Otherwise you won't be able to play proper poker.
2.) Don't let poker get personal. Play to win chips not to knock players out of the game.
3.) Don't panic, play every poker hand with the same mentality - never tilt.
4.) Move up through the stakes slowly, don't play $0.25/0.50 one week and then $10/20 the next.
5.) Don't play poker with more than you can afford to lose.
